The son of the emperor Constantine III, Constans came to the throne in September 641, at age 11, after his father’s death; during his minority the regency (griechisch Κώνστας Konstas, * 7.November 630; † 15. Heraclius was one of the sons of Constans II.His mother was Fausta, daughter of the Patrician Valentinus. Constans II (Welsh: Custennin) was the eldest son of the Western Roman Emperor Constantine III and was appointed co-emperor by him from 409 to 411. Due to the rumours that Heraklonas and Martina had poisoned Constantine III, he was named co-emperor in 641. The name Constantine became established in later Byzantine texts as short for the Emperor and has become standard in modern historiography. Later that same year his uncle was deposed, and Constans II was left as sole emperor. Constans owed his throne to a popular reaction against his uncle and to the protection of the soldiers led by the general Valentinus. Heraclius (Greek: Ἡράκλειος, Herakleios) was Byzantine co-emperor from 659 to 681. The reverse celebrates the victories of the Augusti.
