This architect was Philip Johnson, who designed the Glass House for himself and longtime partner David Whitney. A simple glass box surrounded by 14 other structures, this 1949 Modernist icon has since been the subject of countless case studies and reviewed by virtually every architecture editor under the sun. The Glass House is a museum of architecture and art in New Canaan, Connecticut, located in an ensemble of buildings owned and designed by celebrated American architect Philip Johnson (1903-2005). The floor plan of the Glass House reveals a fairly traditional living space. The second is the River Building at Grace Farms , designed by Japanese firm SANAA and completed in 2015 on 80 acres of a former equestrian farm. The museum takes its name from the famous international-style building known as The Glass House, which is part of the complex.

There is a kitchen, dining room, living room, bedroom, hearth area, bathroom, and an entrance area. The kitchen, dining and sleeping areas were all in one glass-enclosed room, which Johnson initially lived in, together with the brick guest house (later the glass-walled building was only used for entertaining). The building is 56 feet (17 m) long, 32 feet (9.8 m) wide and 10½ feet (3.2 m) high.
