During the fellowship, fellows will divide their time between the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), with the remainder of the time spent engaging in a research project of their choice. Fellows are primarily responsible for all medical patients in the PICU, and they co-manage all surgical patients. It differs from other parts of the hospital, like the general medical floors, in that the PICU allows intensive nursing care and continuous monitoring of things like heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure.
