On entering the main door, you need to go up two flights of stairs to reach the gift shop and tea room (you have to walk through the gift shop to get to the tea room). Inspired by the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Willow Tea Rooms at 97 Buchanan Street are modelled on Kate Cranston’s Ingram Street Tea Rooms from the early 1900s recreating the fabulous interiors from the White Dining Room and the Chinese (Blue) Room.. The Willow Tea Rooms within the Watt Brothers Department Store on Sauchiehall Street will form part of the sale discussions. The building was fully restored largely to Mackintosh's original designs between 2014 and 2018. The building is from 1903 and it’s just amazing to know that for this building, the architect had complete control over the design, from the exterior to the interior -and even the cutlery and waitresses’ dresses! The building is due to reopen in time for the 150th anniversary of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's birth in June 2018.
